Where to Stay?

This first big decision you must make is where to say and this is going to be a difficult choice! When choosing where to stay many personal preferences need to be considered. Vegas is home to over 150,000 hotel rooms spread between world-class resorts, boutique hotels, and budget-friendly options. The iconic strip features many luxurious resorts like Wynn, Caesars Palace, and MGM. These massive resorts have a variety of onsite entertainment from performing venues, fine dining restaurants, pool complexes, and even attractions like a roller coaster! If this is your first time visiting Las Vegas, I HIGHLY recommend staying on the strip with a centrally located hotel. If you are seeking more affordable accommodation downtown Las Vegas (old Vegas) offers many options such as the Golden Nugget or the Plaza Hotel. Downtown Las Vegas and Fremont Street offer a completely different Vegas experience. Even if you do not say here, I highly recommend visiting.

If I am visiting Las Vegas April-October I love to stay at MGM Resorts on the strip specifically for the pool complex! The pool complex offers a range of pools and poolside experiences for everyone, from the main pools with cascading waterfalls and a lazy river (pro tip: bring your tube!) to a secluded adult-only pool. If you would like to indulge in the Las Vegas experience a bit more, I recommend booking a cabana! Many times, you get half of the rental price back in food and beverage credit which helps to justify the cost. Speaking of food and beverage – the pool complex is not just about swimming, there are plenty of food and beverage selections. I recommend any of the frozen beverages in the take-home cups.

Things to See and Do

One thing I love about Las Vegas is that there is a plethora of free exciting activities and attractions!

  1. Bellagio Fountains - Located in front of the Bellagio Hotel, these iconic fountains come to life to provide a choreographed water show to music. This show takes place regularly throughout the day and evening and occurs every 15-30 minutes depending on the day. (Pro Tip: Ride up the escalators to the left of the fountains and watch the show with minimal crowding)

  2. Wildlife Habitat at the Flamingo – Located inside the Flamingo Hotel you can visit the Wildlife Habitat, the home to flamingos, swans, ducks, and koi fish. While the habitat is usually open from 8 am-8 pm, try visiting at 8:30 am or 2:00 pm for a guided wildlife conversation.

  3. Fremont Street Experience – Downtown Las Vegas offers the famous Fremont Street Experience, a pedestrian mall covered by a massive LED canopy. Enjoy free live music, light shows, and street performances.

  4. Welcome to Fabulous Las Vegas Sign – Located just south of Mandalay Bay, don’t miss the opportunity to take a photo in front of the iconic welcome sign. Depending on the time of day, be prepared to wait in line for a photo.

  5. Explore the Hotels - Many Las Vegas hotels are attractions in themselves. Take a stroll through the grand lobbies and extravagant interiors of famous resorts like the Venetian, Caesar's Palace, or the Wynn. Admire the themed decor, stunning artwork, and lavish architectural details without spending a dime.

  6. The Rainstorm Show – Located inside the Miracle Mile Shops at Planet Hollywood Resort & Casino. This short free water show features a simulated rainstorm experience complete with thunder and lightning. This show takes place every hour on the hour. After the show is over, walk around the mall!

  7. Circus Acts – Located inside the Circus Circus hotel, Circus Circus presents a circus! Daily at various times, there are free circus performances including aerialists, trampoline artists, and comedians.

  8. The Conservatory & Botanical Gardens – Located inside the Bellagio Hotel, walk through the stunning display of elaborate floral arrangements, plants, and seasonal displays. These showcases are redesigned multiple times each year, reflecting different seasons, holidays, and special events. Take a stroll through whenever you would like, 24 hours a day.

The city also offers plenty of paid attractions and experiences that are most definitely worth it!

  1. Cirque du Soleil Shows – These world-renowned theatrical productions are known for their stunning acrobatic, artistic performances and mesmerizing visuals. Each show has its own theme, storyline, and artistic style. While Las Vegas is home to several, my favorite is “O” at Bellagio and yes, I’ve seen them all! If you sit in the first few rows of “O” be prepared to get wet, highly recommend it. The other top contenders are the newest addition Mad Apple (16+) and Mystere at Treasure Island.

  2. Exquisite Dining - Las Vegas boasts a multitude of world-class dining options, from celebrity chef restaurants to international cuisines. Treat yourself to a gourmet meal at renowned establishments Joel Robuchon, Gordon Ramsay Hell's Kitchen, or Wolfgang Puck. (Pro tip: Get the cheesecake at Lupo by Wolfgang Puck in Mandalay Bay)

  3. Attend a Sporting Event – Catch a hockey game at the T-Mobile Arena and cheer on the Golden Knights or head to Allegiant Stadium to watch the Las Vegas Raiders play football. Before the games, there are several pre-game activities taking place right outside the arenas!

  4. Unlimited Mimosa Brunch – Need I say more? There are plenty of options on restaurants that offer unlimited mimosa brunch options my personal favorite is Alexxa's, located in front of the Paris Hotel. Their bottomless mimosas are also offered every day! I’ve always had great service and loved the food as well.

Las Vegas Budgeting Tips

Even though the city is known for its luxurious and extravagant experiences that doesn’t mean it isn’t possible to stick to a budget!

  1. Set a budget in advance – Not only a total trip budget but a daily budget as well. This will set you up for success throughout the trip!

  2. Utilize happy hour and dining deals – Many restaurants and bars in Las Vegas offer happy hour specials and discount dining options. (Check out Herbs & Rye; half-price steak!)

  3. Avoid unnecessary expenses – Bring cash; the ATMs have very high fees, think $10+ charge for a withdrawal. Also, minimize impulse shopping for souvenirs and set a limit on how much you're willing to spend.

Las Vegas is a city that never fails to dazzle and captivate its visitors. So, get ready to immerse yourself in the excitement, glitz, and glamour of Las Vegas. Slow down and take it all in, your unforgettable experience awaits!
